Welcome to Wolvix GNU/Linux.

Wolvix is a LiveDistro built from Slackware and the Linux-Live scripts. It's a desktop and multimedia oriented Linux distribution designed to suit the needs of regular to advanced desktop users. Wolvix comes with the Xfce desktop environment and the Fluxbox window manager and includes a carefully selected group of development, graphics, multimedia, network and office applications.

Features:

  • Portable: Bring Wolvix along wherever you go on CD or USB media.
  • Modular: Customize it by adding additional software modules.
  • Compact: Small in size with a comprehensive suite of programs.
  • Flexible: It runs from CD and USB, or as Frugal or Full install on a HDD.

Kernel Update

In response to the recent kernel local root privilege escalation vulnerability a patched kernel has been uploaded to the repositories. To upgrade the kernel simply issue this command from a terminal (as root):

 slapt-get --update && slapt-get --upgrade kernel kernel-modules

If you insist on using Gslapt to update you'll need to remove the ^kernel-.* line from the excludes list first.

Minor bug fix for Wolvix 1.1.0

There's a small bug in Wolvix 1.1.0 (permission problem) which will prevent icons from being added to the Fluxbox menu for non root users.

'Live' users can add this module: 900_iconify-fluxbox-fix.lzm to the 'wolvix/modules/' directory on the CD/ISO/USB/ Same for Frugal installs.

Users with a full install can upgrade to the latest 'wolvixscripts' package with: slapt-get --update && slapt-get --upgrade wolvixscripts .

Database restore

The wolvix.org database has been corrupted somehow and I had to restore it from yesterdays backup. Some posts and user accounts created after the backup was taken are lost. Please repost or re create your account if you have been affected by this. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Happy Holidays!

Nisse

Happy holidays to you all. I'll be going away for about week, but I'll be back before new years. Enjoy your holidays with friends and family. =)

Cheers!

Would you buy a 2GB USB flash drive (Kingston) with Wolvix pre installed for $35?

Wiki back online

The Wolvix Wiki is back online again. Let's hope the new required registration code will prevent the spam bots from registering and destroying the wiki.

Downtime

Sorry about the downtime. My router decided to call quits on me and I've been struggling to get it up and running again. In fear of the router (an old PC running SmoothWall) crapping out on me again I'll be upgrading it in the next few days, but planned downtime will of course be announced. Let's hope the current setup will hold until I've had the time to upgrade it.

Meta Modules 0.1-rc-2 Released

A new version of Meta Modules has been released. Go get it now. Release candidate two now includes the ability to check the downloads cache to make sure that files aren't downloaded twice. At this time there are no other new features but leaving comments, suggestions, and code are all appreciated.

Enjoy!

Wolvix Newsletter - Issue 1

I've finally posted the newsletter that (hopefully) you've all been waiting for! You can find it on the new Wolvix News website, or using this direct link.

I really need comments on what you think of it, how it could be improved (the newsletter and the website), and what sort of articles you'd like to see in the future. Remember, this is my first attempt, so it won't be as organised as you'd probably expect. As I get better, though, I should be able to bring you something a lot better.

Happy reading! :)
